Thorsen Group invests in Sparrow Quantum – Danish deep tech with global potential in the quantum race

Thorsen Group has invested in the Danish deep tech company Sparrow Quantum, which is behind a technological breakthrough in photonic quantum hardware. The investment will support the scaling of production capacity, the expansion of the development organization, and the continued development of the next generation of quantum chips.

Sparrow Quantum has solved one of the most fundamental technical challenges in the development of photonic quantum computers: creating a chip that can emit a single photon at a time with extreme precision. This component is critical for enabling light-based quantum computers to operate in a stable and scalable manner.

Thorsen Group is investing in a Danish deep tech breakthrough with the potential to fundamentally change how quantum computers are built. Sparrow Quantum does not build the quantum computer itself—it builds the critical technology that makes the quantum computer possible.

The technology is rooted in more than 25 years of research at the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen and has been developed by an internationally recognized team of researchers and entrepreneurs. Professor Peter Lodahl, one of the world’s leading experts in quantum photonics, is responsible for the underlying scientific research, while Kurt Stokbro, an experienced quantum entrepreneur, leads the company with a focus on industrialization and global scaling.

“This is a textbook example of how world-class research can be translated into tangible technology with global significance. Sparrow Quantum also clearly reflects Denmark’s unique position within the quantum domain,” says Lars Frøvang Thomsen, Thorsen Group.

With this investment, Sparrow Quantum is positioned to capitalize on the strong global interest in quantum hardware and to further strengthen Denmark’s role in the international quantum ecosystem. Thorsen Group is investing alongside, among others, North Ventures, and the parties share the ambition of making Sparrow Quantum a key global supplier of critical quantum infrastructure.
